We are all aware of the importance of applying sunscreen when spending an extending time outside to protect our sink. It’s recommended that adults apply a generous amounts of sunscreen every two hours.
However, if you have a baby at home, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) suggests only using a small amount of sunscreen to small areas of an infant’s face and the back of the hands. The AAP strongly recommends that young children need to avoid excessive sun exposure, by staying indoors when the sun is at its highest. The best protection against sunburn is to cover up, dress infants in lightweight pants, long sleeved shirts hats and even sunglasses.
It is critical for parents to protect their children’s skin, because sun exposure can increase the risk for eye injury and according to the Skin Cancer Foundation infants and child that get just one blistering sunburn before the age of two, double their chances of developing melanoma in their adolescent or adulthood.
So remember to be careful and cover up!
