London’s Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park has just completed a 6,500-square-foot fitness facility conceived by the New York–based designer Adam Tihany that incorporates a technology that will have swimmer enthusiasts and lovers of lap pools train in a more unique way. Hotel guests can use the new plush modern styled stainless steel swim spa which utilizes a pulsing light system to program their desired lap time and swim duration. The light system takes the information and translates it into a “chasing” display of LED lights at the bottom of the pool that helps the swimmer keep pace. The 17-meter-long, two-lane heated custom stainless steel swimming pool was chosen instead over common pool materials because metal has great design flexibility properties, is considered more hygienic and can withstand high use without corrosion.
